Orientation

Enrolments are finally starting to settle down and courses have started, but the major focus for this week was Orientation Day.  This is a rare chance to get students and teachers together face to face and it an important part of kicking off our courses.  Both research and experience show that face to face opportunities are vital for building relationships in virtual classrooms.   The biggest challenge for us at the moment is that we have so many out of cluster enrolments that you can’t possibly get all the students in a course together face to face.  Maybe the fibre rollout will mean we can bring many more students in through desktop web conferencing.

Anyway, it was a great day and the vast majority seemed to really appreciate the opportunity.  A big thank you to Grant and Anne at Ashburton College for hosting this.
